Worship Ministry
At Gilbert Presbyterian Church, we value the fellowship of worshipping God as a body, as well as worshipping as an individual. We value the role of the church as a whole and the role of each of us individually in serving God.
While our pastor leads the service, we believe we all have a role to play in the life of the church...whether it be as a liturgist, as a musician, as an usher, as a tech team member, or in a variety of other ways. You are welcome to share your gifts in worship, and are encouraged to do so.
Gilbert Presbyterian Church has one worship service at 9:30 AM on Sundays (masks optional). Our worship services are open to members, regularly-attending non-members, and visitors. At the present time, there is limited seating in the sanctuary, and live-streaming of the service is also available on both YouTube and Facebook. The sacrament of communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, and those worshipping in person and virtually are able to participate together. A children’s message focusing on our youngest disciples is a component of each service.
The service is a hybrid of styles. Lifelong Presbyterians would recognize many traditional Presbyterian. We also appreciate the importance of including novel elements, such as more contemporary prayers and praise music.
Music has historically played a key role in worship at GPC, and this continues even under the constraints of the COVID 19 pandemic. The music ministry team coordinates hymns during the service and it is not unusual for some of our many talented members to provide special music (vocal and/or instrumental) to help empower the messages delivered from a particular worship service. We look forward to a future time when we can once again supplement our music ministry with our large chancel choir and our handbell choir.
In addition, special worship services occur on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve to celebrate these special days in the life of the church. Healing services, which provide a special opportunity to give and receive prayer for specific needs, may also occur several times a year.
