Amy Johnston, Music Director
Amy is so delighted to be here as our Music Director. Choral music and musical theater have been a foundational part of Amy’s life since childhood. Amy grew up in Midlothian, Virginia, but she moved with her family to southern California before starting high school. She then attended Loyola Marymount University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music. During her time there she had the rare opportunity to study choral conducting with Paul Salamunovich, known for conducting the LA Master Chorale for many years. After performing in a wide variety of choral, solo, and theatrical productions as a student, Amy stepped into professional musician roles, including church cantor and conductor, chamber performer, private vocal coach, and opera singer. Amy went back to school to certify as a K-12 teacher and taught choir, musical theater, and drama classes in middle and high schools in California and Arizona. After coming to Phoenix, Amy got her MA in Org Design and moved into organizational change management and corporate learning as a career, but she has continued to be an active member of many choral and performance groups. She loves singing barbershop harmony and a cappella pop music with her quartet, The Embers, but sacred choral music holds a special place in her heart.
